About Southernmost Runners

Key West Southernmost Runners Club has been doing Races in the Keys since 1981, The original Southernmost Runners Club disbanded in about 1990. Then in ’93 Marvin Silvey formed Key West Southernmost Runners Inc. with Rich Hull, Robert Price, Sol Costin & Shawn McBratnie. The Club was formed to help start and support the Key West High School Running teams. Due to title 9, the first KW HIGH SCHOOL team was the Girls Cross country team, followed a year later by the Boys Cross Country. Track teams were added each year after that, until 1997 when the KW High school had active boys and girls Cross Country and Track teams.

Due to our location at the end of the road, participation in meets with other schools, mostly on the mainland, transportation cost fell on to the teams to raise funds by doing car washes and other community events. KWSR has donated money for equipment and transportation costs, which it has raised, by doing Races for various sponsors in the Key’s.
